Does Idris Elba Think He’s Handsome Enough To Play James Bond?

Idris Elba was shaken, not stirred by the suggestion he suit up in a tux as James Bond.

“Isn’t 007 supposed to [be] handsome? Glad you think I’ve got a shot! Happy New year people,” he Tweeted on Saturday.

According to The Daily Beast, Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal wrote an email on January 4 to Elizabeth Cantillon, former executive vice president of production for Columbia Pictures, the distributor of the 007 franchise. Amy’s leaked message reportedly read, “Idris should be the next bond.”

During a Q&A session with fans on Reddit in September, Idris said he’d happily accept the role.

“Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely,” he responded to the inquiry.

Radio host Rush Limbaugh raised eyebrows when he put his own controversial spin on the speculation on “The Rush Limbaugh Show” on Tuesday.

“James Bond is a fictional character, obviously. James Bond was invented, created by Ian Fleming, a former spy, MI6, and James Bond is a total concept put together by Ian Fleming. He was white and Scottish, period,” Rush ranted. “That is who James Bond is. But now Sony is suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton rather than a white from Scotland. But that’s not who James Bond is, and I know it’s racist to probably even point this out.”

For the record, Sean Connery was the only James Bond actor to have been born in Scotland. Other actors hailed from Australia, England, Ireland and Wales.

The Sony hack also resulted in the script leak of the upcoming Bond film, “Spectre,” in which the British Daniel Craig reprises the part of the lead character. Despite this breach of secrecy, the movie is currently in production. Daniel was spotted filming scenes in London in mid-December. The next installment of the franchise is expected to be released on November 6, 2015.
