Report: ‘Teen Mom’s’ Amber Portwood Charged With Domestic Violence

Amber Portwood, star of MTV’s reality hit, “Teen Mom” has been charged with domestic violence, according to a new report.

On Thursday, Hollywood Life reported that Portwood, 20, has been charged with two felony counts and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence and battery, for her alleged actions against her sometime boyfriend and the father of her child, Gary Shirley.

The website reported that one of the two felonies stems from footage shot for the MTV reality show.

“We are cooperating with all parties and hope for a quick and fair resolution that allows everyone involved to move forward in a positive manner,” a rep for MTV said in a statement to Access Hollywood on Thursday, which did not confirm the charges.

A rep at the Prosecutor’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Access.

NBC News’ “Today” show reported last month that authorities had launched a full investigation into Portwood, after she was seen kicking and punching Shirley on the MTV show while their daughter was in the room.

Portwood tearfully spoke about the violence with Dr. Drew Pinsky on a “Teen Mom” reunion show on MTV last month. On the show, she claimed she didn’t “even f***ing remember” hitting Shirley multiple times.

“I feel like I hit him one time,” she told Dr. Drew, while crying. “And then I watched [the fight] and I’m like hitting him multiple times.”

After seeing the couple’s latest violent argument when it aired on MTV, authorities reportedly paid a visit to Portwood’s home, and reportedly found evidence that “warrants their attention,” according to “Today.”

Dan Abrams, NBC’s chief legal analyst, told “Today’s” Matt Lauer that the MTV crew who filmed the altercations could also potentially face charges for failing to stop the violence while it happened.

“If the D.A. decides to get aggressive, they could prosecute people who had reason to believe that child abuse was occurring, they could prosecute them for a misdemeanor for not reporting it,” he told Lauer.
