‘Suits’: Patrick J. Adams On If Mike Is Prepared For Prison In Season 6

“Suits” is back with the premiere of Season 6 on
Wednesday night, and the USA series wastes no time, picking right back up with
the newly-incarcerated Mike Ross.

Patrick J. Adams’ character, who took a plea deal at the end
of Season 5 in the hopes of saving his Pearson Specter Litt family, heads
through the gates of Danbury and begins prison life in the premiere – new
haircut, prison blues and all.

“I think Mike is a survivor,” Patrick told Access
Hollywood, when we asked the actor if his character is prepared for prison.
“He’s a little naïve and obviously he’s been known as the puppy from time
to time, but I think ultimately, in some ways more than Harvey, he’s a
survivor.

“He’s a guy who has come from some hard times,” Patrick added, referring to his character’s tough past.

“The circumstance that even put him at  Pearson Specter Litt in the first place, that got him this job — that was due to his ability to make the best of a tough situation,” he continued. “So, I think it’s scary, and I think he’s going to have to learn on his feet really quick and figure out who he can trust and who he can’t, but once he’s done that, I have every faith that he’s going to be able to figure out.”

Before Mike turned himself in, he walked away from becoming Rachel’s (Meghan Markle) husband – for now – though they remain in love.

“I think it was a tough call, but I think he did the right thing,” Patrick said, when asked if Mike might regret not walking down the aisle (before prison) with the woman who holds his heart. “I think he did what he had to do. That was really an act of love. I think most people see that as well. That was something that he didn’t do, not because he didn’t want to marry Rachel. I think he just didn’t want their life together, which he still — I believe — he still assumes it’s going to be a life together, he didn’t want to begin it on this note and he wanted to empower her to go and be what she needed to be to look after herself, to start her life as [a] lawyer, to begin her path. I think he just knew that this rush to do this thing was so unnecessary and in fact would probably get in the way of her dreams and the last thing he would want would be to do that. So, I think the not the getting married is an even more powerful motivation now that he’s in prison. It gives him something to fight for. It gives him a reason to want to get out of there. It gives him something to aspire to, which is a normal life with the woman he loves.”

“Suits” Season 6 premieres Wednesday, July 13 at 9/8c on USA.
