Tom Hanks: Working With ‘Formidable’ Julia Roberts ‘Raises Your Game’

Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts have teamed up (again) for the upcoming romantic dramedy, “Larry Crowne” – the story of a middle-aged man who returns to college after losing his job.

However, Julia, who starred alongside Tom in the 2007 hit, “Charlie Wilson’s War,” says working with the beloved actor on their latest project was a bit different this time as Tom — who also co-wrote and directed the film — made for a tough boss when it came to costuming decisions!

“He was like, ‘Shorten it. Shorten it. Shorten it. Hike it up,’” Julia told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush of Hanks’ wardrobe demands at a junket for the film in Los Angeles on Friday. “I’m wearing micro-mini[skirts]! Gotta get ‘em in the theater!”

Despite being forced to show off her notoriously sexy stems, Julia adored her character and said she knew instantly upon reading the script that she wanted to be a part of the touching film.

“Tom is alluring to me creatively,” Julia explained. “And then he sends me this script which is charming and winning, and asks me to play a drunken school teacher!

“It was a dream come true!” she exclaimed, laughing.

As for working with Hollywood’s classic “Pretty Woman,” Tom earnestly praised Julia, who he called a “formidable” force.

“[Julia] is not intimidating, but here’s the deal — she raises your game,” Tom told Billy. “She’s got the spirit of life that brings everybody up and makes them do their best work.

“And she’s also the teacher of our dreams,” he added as Julia laughed. “I mean, come on! Can you imagine?”

“Larry Crowne” opens in theaters on July 1.
