Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams and inspiration behind “King Richard,” is weighing in on his onscreen portrayer, Will Smith, slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. The retired tennis coach told NBC News in a statement, via his son Chavoita LeSane, “We don’t know all the details of what happened. But we don’t condone anyone hitting anyone else unless it’s in self-defense.”
