Access Week In Geek: Diane Lane & Michael Shannon Reveal ‘Superman’ Secrets (April 15, 2011)

In the Access “Week In Geek,” Diane Lane and Michael Shannon reveal “Superman” secrets… New glimpses from “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” and “The Hobbit” hit the web… Plus, Olivia Wilde sets the record straight about baring it all in “Cowboys & Aliens”

DIANE LANE WAS LOCKED AWAY WITH “SUPERMAN” SCRIPT – “I read the script under lock and key,” Lane, who will play Martha Kent in the upcoming “Superman” reboot starring Henry Cavill, admitted to E! Online.

“I was locked in a room with the script and was only allowed three hours with it. I nailed it into my memory. I’m really excited,” she said.

It is still unclear how much screen time she may have, but she confirms there indeed will be origin elements included in the film.

“I’m really not allowed to talk much about it, I think, but it does cover the entire range of years, from infancy on,” she added.

It’s a safe bet that she will share scenes with Kevin Costner, who was cast as her on-screen husband Jonathan Kent, possibly in flashbacks from Smallville where the future Superman grows up.

MICHAEL SHANNON TALKS HIS “GENERAL ZOD” CASTING – Taking on the Man of Steel in the next Superman big screen adventure as the evil General Zod will be Michael Shannon (“Boardwalk Empire,” “Revolutionary Road”). In this video interview from the RiverRun International Film Festival, where he was honored with an Emerging Master Award, the actor shares some funny secrets regarding his casting as the Kryptonian villain.

EDWARD NORTON DISCUSSES HIS “AVENGERS” ABSENCE AS THE HULK – “They came to me avidly to talk about it and then at the end of the day it was just flat out a business decision,” Edward Norton told The Independent about Marvel Studios decision to recast The Hulk/Bruce Banner with Mark Ruffalo in the super team-up movie “The Avengers.”

“I couldn’t have been happier with the experience that I had making the film,” Norton said in regards to starring in 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk.”

“But nor do I feel any kind of intensity about doing it again. A really good friend of mine’s going to do it now [Mark Ruffalo] and he’s awesome! Marvel’s going to have to deal with their own karma – they’ve got bigger problems than me,” he said.

PETER JACKSON REVEALS “HOBBIT” FIRST LOOK – Director Peter Jackson took to his Facebook page to provide with fans some early glimpses from the massive Wellington, New Zealand set of his epic two part 3-D prequel to “The Lord of the Rings.” Check it out here:

“APES” RISE AGAIN IN CHILLING NEW TRAILER – Those “damn dirty apes” made a big return this week when 20th Century Fox debuted the new trailer for “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” starring James Franco and Frieda Pinto. Check it out here and marvel at the movie magic provided by WETA Digital, the special effects house that also brought Peter Jackson’s “King Kong” to photorealistic life in 2005.

BRADLEY COOPER LOOKING TO FLY AS “THE CROW” – “The Hangover” and “A-Team” star may be taking on the role that the late Brandon Lee made famous on the big screen, Access Hollywood has learned.

Cooper is in talks to star in Relativity Media’s reboot of the successful supernatural franchise based on James O’Barr’s comic book. The film will be directed by “28 Weeks Later” helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who sources confirmed to Access has met with Cooper about the role. The reboot will reportedly be grounded closer to the source material rather than borrow elements from the previous theatrical entries.

MICHAEL CLARKE DUNCAN GOES FROM “THE GREEN MILE” TO “GREEN LANTERN” – Warner Bros. upcoming big screen “Green Lantern” starring Ryan Reynolds continues to add familiar names to their cast. Hot on the heels of announcing that Geoffrey Rush would provide the voice of the alien Tomar-Re (and can be heard in the latest four minute trailer), Michael Clarke Duncan is currently in talks to lend his pipes to the hulking Kilowog, according to The Hollywood Reporter (and following up on the earlier scoop from Latino Review).

Both fan favorite extraterrestrial characters will be realized as CGI creations in the film, and are fellow members of the intergalactic police force called the Green Lantern Corps alongside Reynolds’ Hal Jordan.

NEW ACTION PACKED LOOK AT “COWBOYS & ALIENS” – A new trailer for this summer’s highly anticipated “Cowboys & Aliens” starring Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde hit the web this week. This latest look provides the full action packed scope of the film from director Jon Favreau that blends the best of old west intrigue and classic alien invasion aspects.

Although it was widely reported online that Olivia Wilde paraded on set in the buff for a scene in the film (that is teased in the trailer), the actress set the record straight to Access Hollywood last November.

“No, I am not naked in it,” she confirmed.

“It will look like I’m naked, but I’m not naked,” she said, separating fact from fiction regarding shooting at nighttime bonfire sequence in the desert.

“I’m far too shy,” she said of the possibility of really baring it all in front of so many costumed extras. “No way!” she smiled.
