Christian Bale Reveals Why He’s Letting His Hair Grow Out

Christian Bale’s shoulder length hair and semi-beard at the Golden Globes on Sunday may have had fans wondering what he role he was preparing for, but it turns out, it was just for fun.

“In truth, you know what this is? This is unemployment, this is all this is,” Christian told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush backstage after he picked up his Best Performance By An Actor In A Supporting Role award for the “The Fighter.”

“I haven’t worked since ‘The Fighter,’ and it’s nice to just not bother cutting your hair. When you’re [not] in a job that everything always has to be, you know, worked out for a character, I just sort of let it all hang out, but it’s unemployment, that’s all it is.”

The longhaired look isn’t likely to stick around for long though. Christian said he has a new film coming up shortly.

“In a couple of weeks I’m starting a movie in China with Zhang Yimou, a wonderful, fantastic Chinese director,” Christian said of his next project, the drama “The 13 Women of Nanjing.”

After that, the Golden Globe winner is heading to a long-awaited project that will see him in a black suit.

“I’ll be doing ‘13 Women’ before I start on, ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’” the actor said.

In the meantime, Christian has a few more awards shows to hit with his fellow cast members from “The Fighter,” like Melissa Leo, who also won Best Supporting Actress at the Globes.

“There’s so many great performances… I’m incredibly spoiled right now, as are all the rest of us at ‘The Fighter’ table,” Christian said. “We’re just elated that we’re being considered for anything because you make a movie and half the time nothing ever happens with it… It’s just wonderful… It was a unique movie.”
