‘Runway’s’ Christian Siriano Apologizes To Transgendered & Drag Queen Communities

Christian Siriano

“Project Runway” winner Christian Siriano has apologized to the transgendered and drag queen communities and has promised to attempt to eradicate “trannie” from his vocabulary.

The designer, known for his catch phrases including “that’s fierce” and “hot trannie mess,” as much as his winning fashion designs, recently compared drag queens and transexuals to white-trash in an article meant to celebrate Gay Pride 2008 in Time Out New York magazine.

Siriano had been asked about the lasting appeal of drag queens when he responded with: “If you think of heterosexuals, they have white-trash women and trailer parks, and we have drag queens and trannies.”

Now, Siriano has apologized for his comments, but claimed the answer printed in Time Out wasn’t a full representation of what he meant.

“I wish that my words were not taken in that way,” Siriano told GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). “When I was speaking, some comments that I made were not used in the article. I completely support the fabulousness and amazing fashion inspiration that most transgender people provide.”

GLAAD claimed Siriano is working hard to stop using the term “trannie,” which the organization claims is offensive.

“I mean no disrespect to the transgender population and I never will,” Siriano said. “Some of my close friends happen to be transgender and I think they are some of the most inspiring people in my life.”
