On Tuesday, June 30, the tennis star returned to singles competition after a nearly four-year absence, facing off against 20-year-old Maya Joint. Though she fought hard but ultimately fell short, the legendary athlete walked off smiling and waving before sharing how “amazing” it felt to be back on the court. “It was really great to be back at Wimbledon. I never expected to be here. The atmosphere was amazing. Walking out was amazing. I definitely relished it and missed it and enjoyed the moment more than anything,” the 44-year-old, who skipped media appearances after the match due to a knee injury, said in a statement.
