Game Of Thrones Star Liam Cunningham Embarking On New Aquatic Adventure On Doctor Who

“Game of Thrones” star Liam Cunningham is heading for another sea-based adventure — on BBC America’s “Doctor Who” this Saturday.

The Irish actor (he plays Davos Seaworth on “GOT”) makes a guest appearance on the British cult series this weekend as Captain Zhukov, who crosses paths with the Doctor (Matt Smith) and Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) after they turn up on his sub in the time machine the Tardis, in an episode called “Cold War.”

“Clara arrives and the Tardis shows up on a Russian nuclear submarine, and I play Zhukov, who is the captain of this nuclear submarine,” Liam told AccessHollywood.com. “However, there is also a visitor on board, which is the Ice Warrior, who is a throwback, decades throwback. He’s an old monster.”

In a recent interview with website The Hollywood News, Matt Smith called Liam “a personal favorite” when it comes to acting, and Liam told Access he was impressed by Matt’s work.

“Matt Smith is a wonderful Doctor. He’s wonderful. He’s a very quirky character both in real life and as Doctor Who,” Liam told Access. “I’d seriously say, I think he’s gonna go down as – definitely one of the classics of the Doctors, definitely, definitely, and a delightful human being — as is Jenna-Louise.”
