The battle over Heath Ledger’s $10 million dollar life insurance policy continues to be waged between attorneys and the insurance company. Now, it was reported that a court date has been set in an attempt to settle the matter.
According to the New York’s Daily News’ Gatecrasher, ReliaStar Life Insurance, the company Ledger had his policy with has refused to pay the $10 million, pending its own investigation into whether Ledger’s death was a suicide.
However, attorney William Shernoff , representing Matilda Rose and a former lawyer of the actor, said that Ledger’s death has already been thoroughly investigated and that ReliaStar’s suggestion that it may have been a suicide is improper.
“We think [ReliaStar] is acting in bad faith. The official report ruled it was an accidental death,” Shernoff reportedly told the paper.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Ledger’s daughter, Matilda Rose, will inherit her father’s fortune.
Though a will was prepared before the birth of his daughter, which left the actor’s assets to his parents and three sisters, the Ledger family agreed to gift everything to Matilda.
The actor’s estate has reportedly been estimated at sums up to $20 million, though his will reportedly lists only $145,000 in assets and cash.
Ledger died of an overdose of prescription drugs in his New York apartment on Jan. 22.
