Joshua Jackson returning to the world of network television with his buzzy new medical drama “Doctor Odyssey.”
The series follows the adventures of Dr. Max Bankman (Jackson), a new doctor working aboard a luxury cruise ship.
It’s co-executive produced by Ryan Murphy – and as Joshua told Access Hollywood at the premiere, the show has the TV icon’s unmistakable stamp on it.
“[Ryan’s] worlds are always just a little bit more than the world that we all live in, and ours is sharp,” Joshua said. “It’s all kept together, and it is fast-paced. We have amazing guest stars who come in, and we have the medical drama piece of it, so we have all of this action and drama and tension.”
The main cast is rounded out by Philippa Soo and Sean Teale, who portray nurses on the cruise ship, while Don Johnson plays the captain.
“We have this little family – myself, Pippa, Sean and Don – that are kind of at the heart of the show, so have these recognizable people in this fantasy world,” he said of their core foursome.
Joshua shared that he hopes the series can be a light-hearted piece of entertainment for viewers.
“My hope is that when you sit down with us for an hour, you leave happier than when you arrived,” he shared.
“Doctor Odyssey” premieres Sept. 26 at 9/8c on ABC.
