LOS ANGELES, Calif. (November 23, 2006) — Former G-Unit rapper The Game tops the Billboard 200 chart this week with his sophomore solo album, “Doctor’s Advocate.” Despite the absence of frequent collaborators Dr.Dre and 50 Cent, The Game proves that he’s a force to be reckoned with all by himself. “Doctor’s Advocate” sold 358,278 upon its debut.
Akon takes the #2 position this week with his new album, “Konvicted,” which sold 283,948 copies. The success of “Konvicted” is bolstered by the wildly successful singles, “I Wanna Love You” (featuring Snoop Dogg) and “Smack That” (featuring Eminem), which land on the Hot Downloaded Singles chart at #’s 1 and 3, respectively.
Compilation CD “Now 23” drops two spots on the album chart, landing at #3 with 193,622 copies sold.
Josh Groban also tumbles two spots to #4, while the “Hannah Montana” soundtrack holds fast at #5.
The 6th and 7th positions belong to Keith Urban’s “Love, Pain & The Whole Crazy Thing” and Sugarland’s “Enjoy the Ride,” which both dropped three spots from last week.
Tenacious D, aka Jack Black and Kyle Gass, find themselves at #8 with the soundtrack to their film ‘Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny.”
Beyonce jumps back into the Top 10 this week with her album “B’Day,” which has gone platinum, spending 11 weeks on the chart so far. Beyonce also scores on the Hot Downloaded Singles chart with “irreplaceable,” coming in at #4 for the second week in a row.
Rounding out the Top 10 is the premiere of “When Your Heart Stops Beating” by new band (+44), which features two members of former chart-toppers Blink-182.
Next week sees new releases from Incubus and The Ying Yang Twins.
