Donald Trump Praises Sydney Sweeney Amid American Eagle Jeans Ad Backlash
Sydney Sweeney has a new fan in the White House. President Donald Trump appaluded the actress amid the polarizing response to her recent denim campaign for American Eagle. The ads have sparked debate over its use of the phrase “great jeans” in reference to Sydney having great “genes,” or genetics, a tagline which some believe promotes white supremacy while others think it’s a harmless pun. When asked about recent reports that Sydney is a registered Republican, Trump appeared surprised and shared praise for her and the AE campaign. “Oh. Now I love her ad! Is that right? … If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic,” he told media in Pennsylvania. The following morning, Trump weighed in further in a heated Truth Social post congratulating Sydney and AE while blasting wokeism as being for “losers.” According to CNBC, American Eagle shares rose 15 percent following Trump’s post. Though Sydney herself has yet to respond to Access Hollywood’s request for comment on the controversy as of Aug. 4, American Eagle appeared to defend itself in its first public statement days earlier. The brand shared an Instagram post declaring that the campaign “is and always was about the jeans,” adding, “We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”
