Donald Trump Threatens 100% Tariff On Movies Made Outside U.S.: ‘Business Has Been Stolen’

President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he will be imposing an 100% tariff on foreign-made movies. “Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing ‘candy from a baby.’ California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit!” Trump claimed on Sept. 29, adding, “Therefore, in order to solve this long-time, never-ending problem, I will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter.” The 79-year-old did not specify how the tariff would be imposed or when it could take effect. It’s also unclear on whom the burden of the tariff would fall and, as Reuters reported, what legal authority the President has to enact it. His latest announcement on the topic comes more than four months after he initially threatened a tariff on foreign-made films in May.
