Kim Kardashian Defends Tanning Bed Use After Backlash: ‘It Helps’ My Psoriasis

Kim Kardashian is defending her tanning habit after getting some heat from fans on social media. Two days after the reality star gave an epic tour of her SKKN office on TikTok, fans were taken aback when she got inside a personal tanning bed. Some raised their concerns with such comments as, “Are tanning beds safe again?????” and, “Wait I’m shocked about the tanning bed.” Allure magazine even chimed in, writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Please, Kim Kardashian, don’t try to normalize tanning beds.” On Friday, the 43-year-old responded directly to the backlash, writing, “I have psoriasis and it really helps when it’s bad. But I don’t use it too often.” The National Library of Medicine has noted that psoriasis does improve in the sunlight and that some people with the condition will often use ultraviolet light to help treat it. However, the National Cancer Institute and U.S. Center for Disease and Control Prevention has said that although indoor tanning rates are dropping, they can still increase your risk of skin cancer. The National Psoriasis Foundation also said it does “not support the use of indoor tanning beds as a substitute for phototherapy performed with a prescription and under a health care provider’s supervision.”
