Rhode Island Assistant Attorney General Arrest Video Going Viral: ‘You’re Gonna Regret This’
Bodycam footage showing a Rhode Island prosecutor telling police they’ll “regret” arresting her has gone viral. In the widely circulated footage, released by Newport Police Department and obtained by Access Hollywood, law enforcement officers arrive at Clarke Cooke House in Newport on Aug. 14 where Special Assistant Attorney General Devon Hogan Flanagan and her friend Veronica Hannan had been asked to leave. It’s unclear why the restaurant wanted the pair out or how the initial conflict began, but an employee pleaded with law enforcement to remove them. Despite police telling the pair that they won’t arrest them if they just leave, the women stay put, escalating the conflict and eventually leading to an arrest. In a statement to NBC News, the state Office of the Attorney General said Hogan Flanagan had been employed for around 7 years, currently assigned to Appellate Unit of the Criminal Division. “The Office immediately began a review of the incident. At this time, we are unable to comment further on this matter as it relates to personnel issues. We recommend contacting the Newport Police Department to request any arrest reports or other police records,” the statement added. NBC News additionally reported that the women did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Tuesday. Newport Police said that Hogan Flanagan was charged with Willful Trespass and given a District Court Summons to appear in court, while Hannan was charged with Willful Trespass, Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest and was brought to court for arraignment.
