Ryan Murphy On How He Told Kaia Gerber & Homer Gere’s Parents About Their Casting In ‘The Shards’

Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere may be co-stars now but the actors’ parents go way back! Kaia’s mom, Cindy Crawford and Homer’s dad, Richard Gere, were married from 1991 to 1995 and went on to re-marry and have kids. Despite the wild connection, Kaia told Access Hollywood she didn’t know Homere prior to starring in “The Shards.” “We had some mutual friends, but I was really, really excited to meet Homer and he’s such a wonderful actor, I mean my God!” she said. Homer sent the love right back telling Access she’s a “lovely actress and person.” The show’s creator Ryan explained at the premiere their parents’ past did play a role in the casting but isn’t the reason he made the show. “The Shards” premiers Aug. 5 on FX.
