Shakira Explains Why Her Sons ‘Hated’ The ‘Barbie’ Movie: ‘It Was Emasculating’
Grammy-winning singer Shakira is explaining her brand of feminism in new cover story with Allure. When asked her thoughts on the “Barbie” movie, the Colombian pop star said she and her sons found the movie to be “emasculating.” “I’m raising two boys. I want ’em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women,” the 47-year-old said. “I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide.” The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer also spoke about her latest album “Las Mujeres Ya No LLoran,” telling the mag, I want this music to build bridges, to empower people, to help women discover their own strengths.”
