Shakira Says Writing Hit Breakup Song Helped Her Amid ‘Rough Year’ After Gerard Piqué Split

The music superstar joined “The Tonight Show” this week alongside collaborator Bizarrap and told host Jimmy Fallon how writing their hit breakup track helped “channel [her] emotions” after splitting from longtime partner Gerard Piqué. “I’ve had a very rough year after my separation,” she said, adding that she feels she now has a “sisterhood” with other women who can relate to the track’s deeply personal lyrics.
