Vatican cardinals have elected the first American pope in history. 69-year-old cardinal Robert Francis Prevost from Chicago became Pope Leo XIV on May 8 after a two-day conclave, and as all eyes are glued to Vatican City, will Leo be a game changer for the 1.4 billion members of the Catholic church? The new pontiff introduced himself to the world in his first remarks on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and some in the States were also celebrating – including fans of his alma mater, Villanova University!
