Demi Lovato Voices Support For Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Decision To Seek ‘Mental Health’ Treatment

Catherine Zeta-Jones has found a somewhat unlikely supporter in the wake of Wednesday’s announcement that she’d been admitted to a mental health facility for treatment of her Bipolar II Disorder.

Teen queen Demi Lovato — who recently spoke out about her own struggles with depression and self-harm — took to Twitter to praise the veteran actress’ courageous decision to seek help.

“I don’t know Catherine Zeta-Jones personally but what she has decided to do [is] SO brave,” she Tweeted on Thursday. “And SO difficult but worth it… I’m proud of her.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Demi, 18, recently opened up about her own private struggles that led to an intervention by her family and a stint at a rehab facility.

“I basically had a nervous breakdown. I was really bad off,” Demi told Seventeen Magazine in an interview for their May issue. “My parents and my manager pulled me aside and said, ‘You need to get some help.’ It was an intervention. I wanted freedom from the inner demons. I wanted to start my life over.”

The “Sonny with a Chance” star admitted to the teen mag to cutting herself, as well as to battling an eating disorder and bouts of depression.

Demi’s struggles came to a head in early November, when she allegedly punched Alex Welch (a dancer on her tour with the Jonas Brothers) – an action she deeply regrets.

“Lashing out was my cry for help,” she told the mag. “Wow, who was I to do that? I’m very ashamed. I wasn’t in the right state of mind at all.”
