Glam Slam: Makeup Mondays — The Ultimate Eye

The smokey eye. Love the look. Can’t do it myself. Makeup Artist Valerie Hunt, who has worked with Oprah, Gayle King and Shaun Robinson, created a beautiful soft smokey eye for me when I taped Access Hollywood’s “Get It Or Shred It” segment. And I asked her to write down what she was doing so maybe, just maybe, a makeup-challenged girl like myself could recreate the look. Here is her step-by-step smokey eye guide.

VAL’S TIPS:

1. I start with a concealer and set it with a neutral eyeshadow in beige with a flat synthetic brush.

2. Then I used an off white eyeshadow as a highlight on her brow bone, also using a small flat brush. On her eyelids, I used a shimmering taupe-gray, that was very rich in color and pigment.

3. Her eyeliner was a cream liner in graphite, which is a deep, dark gray and I set it with a shimmering dark burgundy. I smudged her eyeliner with MAC’s #219 pencil brush, which has a fine point tip.

4. I smoked out her bottom lash line as well, using the dark shimmering burgundy, which really accentuates her blue eyes.

5. Three coats of black mascara is a must for this fierce look!

“When going with a bold eye, keep the rest of your face neutral with a soft pink blush and neutral lip color. This smokey look works fabulously on any skin tone, however, the only adjustment for darker skin is to use a deeper plum rose blush. Go for it ladies!”
