‘Lost’ & Found: Who Are Ben & Juliet? (October 11, 2006)

by Bryant Huddleston

The first four minutes of last week’s “Lost” premiere left me thinking once again, “Now why didn’t this unbelievable show get nominated for the Emmy?” Apparently the academy was watching meerkats and not focusing on the important things in life.

Now here’s what we know going into tonight?s second episode–Henry Gale’s name is actually Ben (never would have guessed) – who obviously has a history with Juliet— who will obviously be hooking up with her “Romeo” Jack sometime soon. We know she is conflicted with her duties in her underwater prison and she releases her stress by reading Stephen King?s “Carrie” (the book club selection-a pause on tivo works magic).

Like I predicted, “The Others” were not what was expected. Could they be regular folk? They, too, have lived a life off the island. They enjoy modern music, muffins, and they have their share of plumbing problems like the rest of us. BUT they also have a strange agenda. Why do they want to study these particular survivors? The Hydra division of the Dharma Initiative is obviously hiding out in what appears to be an abandoned zoo – cages for the bears (polar bears return this season) and the aquarium for sharks and dolphins.

Tonight, things finally heat up between Sawyer and Kate. We’ve seen them making out in the promo. I admit their first and only kiss was one of the hottest I’ve ever seen on tv and wait until you see the look Kate gives the bad boy when one of “The Others” implies she should take off her new dress — it’s a gem. They’ll be forced into hard labor by an irrate work horse carrying a stun gun. Here’s a tease…

The Other: You talk to each other, you’re gonna be shocked. You touch each other, you’re gonna be shocked! You’re slacking, you’re gonna get shocked! In fact if you do anything at all that pisses me off, you’re gonna get shocked! Now get to work!

Kate: I’m not doing anything until I see Jack!

(The Other shocks Sawyer. He falls to the ground.)

The Other to Sawyer: As soon as you’re able to walk, the wheelbarrow is over there.

Now besides being the “Lost” boy here at Access, I cover “Dancing With The Stars” and who was sitting in the front row last night but an “Other”? It was actually actress Paula Malcomson from “Deadwood”. She appears in tonight?s episode, “The Glass Ballerina,” as Colleen. What was surprising was her reaction when I said, “I saw you in a clip for Wednesday’s episode.”

Her response, “Oh yeah? I couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there.” Uh, ok maybe she just missed playing a dirty hooker in the Wild Wild West or she just loathed the north shore. The blonde actress does however deliver an interesting moment tonight by scaring the heck out of Ben/Henry Gale. Sayid and crew are discovered on the sailboat and it has the group?s leader sweating bullets.

Colleen: They have a sailboat.
Ben: How? (looking frightened)
Colleen: I have no idea
Juliet: So they have a boat. Sailing in circles will keep them busy.
Colleen: They’ll find us!

In next week’s “Lost & Found” I’ll give you the scoop on the show’s new stud Rodrigo Santoro. All I will say for now is that I’m holding his NYPD cap hostage at my desk. Hmmm what shall I do… eBay??? Or, hold it ransom to get a free trip back to the “Lost” set??!

I think I’d rather pack my bags.
