LOS ANGELES (October 26, 2006) — Nicole Richie is reportedly taking a break from “The Simple Life” to seek help in her own life.
Nicole’s rep tells Access Hollywood that the 25-year-old reality TV star “has decided to undergo diagnostic treatment to determine why she’s not been putting on any weight. She is working with a team of doctors and specialists whose focus is nutrition. It is important to Nicole that she achieve this goal in a healthy way, [but] this is not a treatment for an eating disorder.”
Nicole’s treatment means that filming of the new season of “The Simple Life,” starring the on-again/off-again BFFs Nicole and Paris Hilton as camp counselors, will be temporarily placed on hold, E! news reports. Filming is expected to resume in mid-November.
“Everyone… supports Nicole and wishes her well. We consider her a part of our family and look forward to resuming production on ‘The Simple Life’ when she is ready,” “Simple Life” producers 20th Century Fox and Bunim/Murray said in a joint statement released Thursday.
Speculation hasswirled in recent months around the cause of Nicole’s weight loss. Earlier this year, she told People magazine that “stress” over her breakup with former fiancé Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein was affecting her eating habits.
Back in July, Nicole’s father Lionel Richie told Access Hollywood he was hurt by all of the talk surrounding his daughter’s weight.
“I’ll be honest with you, it (hearing rumors about Nicole’s weight) hurts me more than it hurts her. I’m more sensitive; I take it more so personal?I must tell you, I’m the basket case.”
When asked if he talks to Nicole about her weight, Richie added, “Of course, I mean, what are fathers for if you can’t point the finger every once in a while. I think the good part of it is she is aware of it? She has heard this all her life from me so this is just a continuation of the reminder.”
