On The Download: Kanye West’s ‘Heartless’

Heartless,” the current single from Kanye West’s highly anticipated upcoming fourth disc — “808’s & Heartbreak” — perfectly blends the cold, metallic 80s synth sound he’s been known for of late, with his older bouncing more straight forward Hip-Hop style.

The track manages to be upbeat while still remaining melancholy with Kanye singing in his now famous (thanks T-Pain) auto-tuned robotic croon:

“In the night, I hear ‘em talk, the coldest story ever told. Somewhere far along this road, he lost his soul to a woman so heartless.. How could you be so heartless?”

The song goes on to reflect on his recent break-up with fiance Alexis Phifer, kind of reminiscent of Eminem — who famously trashed his on-again-off-again ex, Kim (As of press time Kanye seems to be back together with Alexis).

Either way, the subject makes good fodder for this super-slick space age, ragga-tinged gem. I highly recommend you download it, pop it in your car and take a late night drive down Sunset Blvd.
