Rockin’ Rod Stewart Tops Billboard Album Charts

LOS ANGELES (October 19, 2006) — In this week’s Verizon Wireless Access V CAST Music Moment, we findRod Stewart back on top of the music world.

Rod Stewart debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart with the release of his first rock album in 8 years, “Still the Same…Great Rock Classics of Our Time,” with 184,304 copies sold. This comes on the heels of the success of the four volumes that comprise Stewart’s Grammy-award winning “Great American Songbook” series, which sold a worldwide total of fifteen million copies in just 4 years.

Clive Davis, Chairman and CEO of BMG U.S., comments in a J Records press release: “The last four years with Rod’s five albums have exceeded any fantasy. It’s what makes this business exhilarating, unpredictable and totally fulfilling. It’s a milestone neither of us will ever forget.”

Last week’s chart champs Evanescence dropped to #2 with “The Open Door,” but still sold an impressive 164,042 copies their second week out.

G-Unit’s Lloyd Banks debuts on the chart at #3 with his second solo release, “Rotten Apples,” selling 142,587 copies, while Jimmy Buffet enters the chart close behind at #4 with his latest, “Take the Weather With You.” Tony Bennett enjoys steady sales of his “Duets” album, falling only one spot to #5.

As for the Billboard Top 10 Downloaded Singles Chart, Hinder holds tight to the #1 spot for the second week in a row with “Lips of an Angel,” while Akon and The Fray swap places from last week to land at #s 2 and 3, respectively.

The only newcomer to the Top 10 this week is Nelly Furtado, whose single “Maneater” chomps its way into the #9 position.

Next week sees the release of new albums from Arctic Monkeys and John Legend, A “greatest hits” collection from Moby, and a deluxe 2-CD set of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” Soundtrack which coincides with the 3-D release of the film in theaters.
