‘Supergirl’/’The Flash’ Musical Crossover: Find Out Who Is Singing!

The “Supergirl”/”The Flash” crossover is
on the way, and now, we’ve got new – confirmed – details about which cast
members will be involved.

“Glee” alums Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist will
sing, as will “Rent” alum Jesse L. Martin and Broadway vets Victor
Garber, Jeremy Jordan, Carlos Valdes and John Barrowman. All were first suggested as possible singers
for the shows back when the musical crossover was first announced at the
Television Critics Association Summer tour in 2016.

The crossover begins at the end of “Supergirl” on
March 20 with the bulk of the crossover taking place on “The Flash” on March 21.

The episode of “The Flash,”
titled “Duet,” is directed by Dermott Downs and airs on March 21. It
will also feature the first appearances on
“The Flash” by David Harewood and Chris Wood.

Asked back at the TCA event how the concept of having a
musical crossover came about, Berlanti explained it would have been a missed
opportunity if they hadn’t tapped into the cast’s musical abilities.

“I’ve probably been leading the charge myself just because
my own personal living in the nexus of loving musicals and loving
superheroes,” Berlanti said at the time.

“So
many times it’s a musical episode off the set between cameras rolling and I
think on all the shows, we love to use all
the characters’ talents as much as possible. We’ve toyed with who potentially
the villain could kind of be. My sense is we’ll be very careful about how it is
they kind of break into song, that there’ll probably be an element of being in
some character or characters’ heads at the time, just so
that we’re sort of being delicate in terms of how we navigate those waters, but
it’s many episodes away,” he continued. “But we are going to start
combing through the music and talking about the possibilities. And again, yeah,
I think just as a fan of both genres, myself, to have an opportunity to — with
all these different individuals who have so much extraordinary talent, to not
tap into it in that way, I feel like we would’ve missed an opportunity and so
that’s our hope.”
