Eminem Marks 18 Years of Sobriety With Powerful Photo Days After Granddaughter’s Birth

Eminem is celebrating 18 years of being sober. On Monday, April 20, the rapper uploaded an Instagram picture of himself holding a coin to mark the milestone. The coin featured the inscription “to thine own self be true” on the outer edge, while the inner layer displayed the words “unity, service, recovery” around the sides of a triangle with a circle in the middle that showed the Roman numeral for 18, “XVIII.” The music icon captioned his photo with the same “XVIII” alongside a gold medal emoji. He additionally received supportive comments for his achievement, including from Big Sean, Questlove and Theo Von. The landmark comes amid a special time for his family life as well, as the artist’s daughter, Alaina Scott, welcomed her first child just days earlier.
