Engaged Couple Found Dead In Vietnam Villa Died After Drinking Contaminated Alcohol (Report)
A cause of death has reportedly been confirmed for an engaged couple who were found deceased at a rented villa in Vietnam. Weeks after property employees discovered the bodies of Greta Otteson, 33, and Arno Quinton Els, 36, in separate rooms on Dec. 26, Vietnam police told British newspaper The Times that the pair passed away from methanol poisoning. The tragedy is believed to have been caused by contaminated limoncello delivered to the villa from a nearby restaurant on Christmas Eve. Vietnam News previously reported that empty alcohol bottles were found on the premises, and Otteson’s parents said in a statement to The Times that they hope to bring to justice those responsible for supplying the alcohol. As of Jan. 27, no arrests have been reported. A source close to the family told the UK paper that Otteson had shared with her parents via a WhatsApp chat on Christmas that she had “the worst hangover ever” and saw black spots in her vision. According to The Times, the family source said that Otteson and Els declined to seek medical help and opted to try and “sleep it off.” The couple is said to have moved to Vietnam in early 2024 and gotten engaged less than a month before their sudden passings.
