Gayle King’s Ex-Husband Reacts To CBS Anchor Recalling Moment She Caught Him Cheating

Gayle King’s ex-husband William Bumpus is speaking out after the CBS Mornings anchor recalled the moment she caught him cheating on her nearly 40 years ago. During the May 27 episode of “Call Her Daddy,” King told host Alex Cooper that she walked in on her husband with one of her close friends in 1990, admitting that she was previously oblivious to the affair. “I start searching the house because I didn’t believe him. I didn’t believe him. I get down and there they are. Or there she is – cowering behind the door in my towel, Alex. It was a nice bath sheet. In my towel. In my towel,” King recalled, adding, “I even said, ‘I thought we were friends.’” Hours after the episode’s release, Bumpus shared a statement to TMZ in which he apologized for his past actions. “My deepest apologies to Gayle, to our daughter Kirby and her husband, Virgil, to our son William and his wife, Elise, and to our three grandchildren, for the pain I caused decades ago. Those actions were mine. I have long owned them — including publicly in my own words in 2016, which still stand,” he said in part, adding, “Gayle has every right to share what was a painful chapter that changed the trajectory of our marriage and our family nearly forty years ago. I respect her right to tell her story, and that’s where I’ll leave it.” Bumpus had also previously publicly apologized in 2016 after King referenced his affair in an interview with Vanity Fair and revealed the date of the incident to be June 24, 1990.
