How Gayle King Feels After Ex Husband William Bumpus Publicly Apologized For Cheating Decades Ago

Gayle King is speaking out following her ex-husband William Bumpus’ public apology for cheating on her nearly 40 years ago after she revealed the details of when she caught him being unfaithful. During the May 27 episode of “Call Her Daddy,” King told host Alex Cooper that she walked in on her husband with one of her close friends in 1990, admitting that she was initially oblivious to the affair. “I start searching the house because I didn’t believe him. I didn’t believe him. I get down and there they are. Or there she is – cowering behind the door in my towel, Alex. It was a nice bath sheet. In my towel. In my towel,” King recalled. Hours after the episode’s release, Bumpus shared a statement to TMZ in which he apologized for his past actions, sharing in part, “My deepest apologies to Gayle, to our daughter Kirby and her husband, Virgil, to our son William and his wife, Elise, and to our three grandchildren, for the pain I caused decades ago. Those actions were mine. I have long owned them — including publicly in my own words in 2016, which still stand.” On Friday, May 29, TMZ caught up with the CBS Mornings anchor who shared that she was “surprised” by her ex’s comments but appreciated them. “I appreciate it, because listen, that was a very painful time. People need to understand- anybody that’s been through it knows how painful it is, but I also know that you can go through and get through it on the other side. This happened so long ago that we have both healed, we have both moved on, and the reason why I can talk about it so candidly, to be honest with you, is because it has been so much time that has passed I’m in a really great place and so is he,” she said in part.
