John Cena Reveals How Fan Bullying Led Him To Get Hair Transplant Surgery
John Cena is opening up about facing his insecurities. The WWE superstar reflected on getting hair transplant surgery, sharing on “The Pat McAfee Show” on April 22 that fan criticism led him to take drastic action to remedy a self-described “bald spot.” John addressed the crowd directly about feeling taunted over his thinning hair and that the trolling ultimately took an emotional toll. “You chant and you make me feel small and you embarrass me,” he said. “Y’all don’t know what that’s like. That is straight-up bullying. That’s just not cool. I don’t like it. … So, thank you for bullying me into getting surgical hair replacement. That’s how far y’all push me.” The 47-year-old’s confession comes just one day after he took home his 17th WWE Championship title – a new record. Though he appeared to maintain his villainous “heel” character during much of the interview, he also wasn’t afraid to poke a little lighthearted fun at his situation. John went on to joke how he’s not just missing hair on his head, noting that his stubble-free face isn’t necessarily by choice either. “I haven’t shaved in 10 years,” he said, adding that he’s actually unable to grow a beard or mustache. The actor explained that balding is a “genetic problem” he “can’t control” but teased that he’s confident he’ll have the last laugh. “I got a problem. I try to fix it. That’s what I’m doing,” he said. “And I’m not going to tell you who did it because I’m still waiting for it to get better. Once it gets better and I’ve got the long flowing locks, I’ll be like, ‘Yo, go to this guy.’ So I’m working on it. Work in progress, work in progress.”
