President Donald Trump & Melania Trump Plan To Attend Pope Francis’s Funeral
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will be attending the funeral of Pope Francis. “Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome. We look forward to being there!” the president wrote in a Truth Social post on April 21. Earlier in the day he also sent his condolences writing, “Rest in Peace Pope Francis! May God Bless him and all who loved him!” The Vatican said the Argentina-born Pope died on April 21 in his apartment in the Vatican City due to a stroke that led to a coma and prompted irreversible heart failure. Prior to his death, he battled a series of health issues and was hospitalized for 38 days. He made his last public appearance on Easter Sunday, where he blessed thousands of people in Saint Peter’s Square. Pope Francis’ tenure as Pope was historic. He was the first Latin American Pope and was known for his efforts to make the catholic church more inclusive. Central to his papacy were the protection of immigrants, climate action and inequality. He also did more to promote women in the church and to reach out to the LGBTQ community than any previous pope although he opposed women priests, gay marriage and abortion.
