Bryan Kohberger Sentencing: Idaho Murder Victims’ Surviving Roommates Emotionally Speak Out In Court
The surviving roommates of four murdered University of Idaho students spoke out at the July 23 sentencing hearing for Bryan Kohberger, who pleaded guilty to the 2022 killings. Bethany Funke and Dylan Mortensen delivered powerful impact statements in court, with Kohberger present, marking their first public comments on the tragedy. Mortensen herself got tearful about the pain and trauma she continues to endure, while a friend of Funke read her emotional statement on her behalf that noted how she felt “sick with guilt” over her friends’ deaths. Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were killed in the Moscow, Idaho, home they shared with Funke and Mortensen, who were in the basement at the time of the murders. Kohberger received a life sentence without parole for each victim.
