Chiefs’ Harrison Butker Gets Celebrities Fired Up Over Controversial Speech That Quoted Taylor Swift

As Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker continues to face backlash following his controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College on May 11, in which he quoted Taylor Swift’s song lyrics, celebrities, and even the NFL, are weighing in. Singer Maren Morris took to her Instagram Story on May 15 to post a clip of the speech writing underneath, “I choose the bear” – a reference to a popular TikTok debate where women decide if they’d rather be trapped in the woods with a man or a bear. Meanwhile, Rapper Flavor Flav posted May 14 on X, formerly Twitter, “Sounds like some players “need to stay in their lanes” and shouldn’t be giving commencement speeches.” During his speech, the Chiefs kicker had made multiple comments telling people to “stay in their lanes.” On May 15, the NFL issued a statement saying in part, “[Harrison Butker’s] views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”
