Hoda Kotb Says Simone Biles’ Withdrawal ‘Took A Special Kind Of Courage’

Hoda Kotb is one of many who is inspired by Simone Biles’ courage as she stepped back from the Tokyo Olympics women’s gymnastics team final – and later the individual all-around final – to prioritize her mental health. “How much guts did it take for her to say, ‘I’m not going to continue’?” she told Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans in Tokyo. “She knew every– all of the eyes were on her. That took a special kind of courage.” Hoda’s “TODAY” co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker and Craig Melvin also shared their thoughts on her decision, with Craig saying he thought it was “selfless” of Simone to withdraw from the competition in order to uplift her team. Plus, the foursome shared their reflections on other standout moments from the Games, including Katie Ledecky’s big win. The Tokyo Olympics air through Aug. 8 on NBC.
