The actor stars as King Louis XV in the French-language film “Jeanne du Barry,” his first onscreen role since his and ex-wife Amber Heard’s defamation trial. The first trailer for the historical drama, which dropped on Wednesday, shares the first look at Depp acting in French in his portrayal of the 18th century monarch. The film follows the story of Jeanne, the last royal mistress of France. According to its synopsis, the title character “uses her intelligence and allure to climb the rungs of the social ladder one by one. She becomes the favorite of King Louis XV who, unaware of her status as courtesan, regains through her his appetite for life.”
