Kate Winslet Roasted Robert Downey Jr. Over His British Accent Attempt In ‘The Holiday’ Audition

Robert Downey Jr. is reminiscing on a time when Kate Winslet made fun of him for his attempt at a British accent. The “Iron Man” actor and Jimmy Fallon made an appearance together on Sirius XM’s “The Howard Stern Show” over the weekend and they opened up about the time they auditioned together for Nancy Meyers’ hit Christmas film, “The Holiday.” “We both got called in just as seat fillers and we saw each other. Jack Black is getting his part and Jude Law is definitely getting my part, but she needed someone to read with the gals and we’re sitting there going, ‘It’s about to happen for us,'” Robert said. The actors who wound up landing the iconic roles were Jude Law, Jack Black, Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. Robert was confident at the time that he was going to beat out the British heartthrob, but Kate let him know his British accent wasn’t up to snuff. “Winslet said, ‘That is the worst British accent I’ve ever heard,’ and I was like, ‘I’ll check out now,'” Robert revealed.
