‘RHOC’ Alum Lydia McLaughlin Speaks Out After Brother Is Allegedly Fatally Shot During Traffic Stop

“Real Housewives of Orange County” alum Lydia McLaughlin Stirling is breaking her silence after her brother Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, 45, was allegedly fatally shot by police last week during a traffic stop, according to TMZ. The reality star paid tribute to her brother in an Instagram post on Saturday, April 19, which was accompanied by Billie Eilish’s song “Birds of a Feather.” “My family has experienced an unimaginable loss. My brother, Geoff, was tragically taken and our hearts are shattered. This was the song he turned to after we lost our mom. He’d cry every time. I can’t believe we’re facing this pain just 6 months after losing my best friend and mother. I know they’re both with Jesus now, and He’s walking with me through this darkness. One step at a time,” she wrote, adding, “Thank you to everyone who has been praying for us.” TMZ reported, citing law enforcement sources, that Stirling, who rode a motorcycle, was “uncooperative” with police and was shot Thursday night, later dying at the hospital. No officers were reportedly injured during the encounter. California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced on Friday, April 18, that the California Department of Justice is investigating “an officer-involved shooting (OIS) that occurred in Newport Beach, California on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at approximately 9:15 p.m.” The release also noted that the incident resulted “in the death of one individual,” adding that after the investigation is completed it “will be turned over to DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.”
