Mitt Romney Breaks Silence After Sister-In-Law Carrie Romney Found Dead Near Parking Garage
Mitt Romney is speaking out following a sad and sudden loss. The former presidential candidate has issued his first public comment days after the passing of his sister-in-law, Carrie Romney, who was found dead near a Southern California parking garage on Oct. 10. “Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought warmth and love to all our lives. We ask for privacy during this difficult time,” Romney said in a statement obtained by multiple outlets. According to an online police report, authorities responded to a shopping area in Santa Clarita, Calif., where Carrie’s body was discovered. She was 64. The report noted that the local Medical Examiner’s office will determine an official cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing. A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. spokesperson told People that a woman had either jumped or fallen from the parking structure, which NBC LA reports is five stories tall and located next to a Hyatt Regency hotel. Foul play is reportedly not suspected. Access Hollywood has reached out to the LA County Sheriff’s Office for further comment. Carrie had been married to Romney’s older brother, Michigan-based corporate attorney George Scott Romney, since 2016. Per the Daily Mail, the couple was in the midst of divorce proceedings, but the reported split has yet to be confirmed directly as of Oct. 14.
