Scarlett Johansson Slams OpenAI CEO For “Eerily Similar” Voice On ChatGPT After She ‘Declined’ Offer
Scarlett Johansson is speaking out against OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman. The actress released a statement obtained by multiple outlets in which she expresses her anger and shock claiming that ChatGPT used a voice “so eerily similar to mine” after she previously declined an offer from the CEO to use her voice. “Last September, I received an offer from Sam Altman, who wanted to hire me to voice the current ChatGPT 4.0 system. He told me that he felt that by my voicing the system, I could bridge the gap between tech companies and creatives and help consumers to feel comfortable with the seismic shift concerning humans and Al,” Scarlett said in part, before revealing that she did not accept the offer. “After much consideration and for personal reasons, I declined the offer. Nine months later, my friends, family and the general public all noted how much the newest system named “Sky” sounded like me.” The 39-year-old further claims that she was “forced to hire legal counsel,” which eventually led OpenAI to “reluctantly” agree to take down the “Sky” voice. Altman has denied that “Sky” is Scarlett Johansson’s voice and claimed that it was “never intended to resemble hers,” according to multiple published reports. OpenAI also confirmed on social media that they are “working to pause the use of Sky.”
